Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the process as having seven stages and give a relevant overview, noting that it begins with growing sugar cane and ends with drying and cooling. You also include the 12–18-month growing period and several central steps, such as harvesting, crushing and limestone filtration. However, the account is incomplete: it stops during the centrifuge stage and does not explain that this separates sugar crystals from syrup or describe the final drying and cooling stage in detail. The response is also below the required 150 words; the nine words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count. To improve, cover every stage and explain the transformation from juice to syrup and then to sugar crystals, using the diagram’s details accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic sequence to the response: an introduction and overview are followed by stages in process order. Connectors such as “Overall,” “After that,” and “Moreover” help signal progression. However, the overview is separated awkwardly, and the body paragraph ends abruptly at “seperate sugar c,” leaving the sequence unfinished and weakening the overall progression. Some transitions are mechanical or incorrectly punctuated, as in “Moreover.” followed by a new sentence. The lowercase starts in “the sugar making process” and “according to the process diagram” also make paragraph boundaries less clear. Organise the stages into a complete, continuous account, use paragraphing consistently, and choose transitions that show the actual relationship between steps.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “manufacturing process,” “harvest,” “crushing,” “limestone filter,” and “drying and cooling.” These terms make the topic recognisable, and “fully grown” is a useful description of the cane before harvesting. However, some word choices and forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “these procedure,” “plants were harvests,” and “boiling using a container.” The unfinished phrase “seperate sugar c” also prevents the final technical stage from being communicated. Aim for precise process collocations and accurate forms: for example, describe cane as being harvested, juice as being heated to form syrup, and crystals as being separated. Proofread spelling and avoid repeating general terms when a specific process word is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including “Overall, it can be seen that…” and a sequence beginning “after 12 to 18 months.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make the process difficult to follow. Examples include the agreement error “these procedure consisting,” the faulty passive construction “plants were harvests,” and “the collected sugar canes then goes through machine.” The sentence “Moreover. in the 5th stage it then boiling” has incorrect punctuation and an incomplete verb structure. Capitalisation at sentence beginnings is also inconsistent. Use complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, check singular/plural agreement, and practise passive forms such as “the cane is crushed” and “the juice is heated.”
