Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
How sugar is produced from sugar cane
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrate the manufacturing process for producing sugar from sugar cane. This process has seven steps which describe the manufacturing of refine sugar.
Overall, The first step was growing sugar canes and it took around 12-18 months to grow proper.when the sugar cane grow fully the step two was harvesting, it could be done by two process it can cut by machine for the large scale or also by human labours for small scale area.Futhermore, In step three the sugar cane transport in to the crushig area. sugar cane crushover there and collect juice in a large circle bowl. After that in step four the juice pure into the purfying juice container, which is connected with limeestone filter. Moreover, the purfying juice transfer into the evaporator machine and provide optimum heat to get a sryrup from the juice. In step six syrup pour into the centrifuge to get the separates sugar crystals from the syrup. In the final, the seven step sugar stored into the significant round container for drying and cooling procress. After this all process in the end we get the pure refine sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main sequence from growing through to drying and cooling, and correctly include the 12–18-month growing period and the two harvesting methods. The overview identifies a seven-step process, while details such as crushing the cane to obtain juice and heating it to make syrup show relevant understanding. Some features are less fully or clearly reported: the limestone filter is mentioned, but its role in purifying the juice could be explained more directly, and the final stage is described as storage in a container rather than clearly stating that the sugar is dried and cooled. Avoid adding unsupported details such as harvesting being for “large scale” or “small scale” production. A clearer overview of the transformation from cane to sugar, followed by precise stage descriptions, would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The stages are generally presented in the correct order, and sequencing phrases such as “Overall,” “After that,” “Moreover,” and “In the final” help the reader follow the process. However, the response is written as one long paragraph, so the overview and process details are not clearly separated. Several transitions feel mechanical or are used where a simple sequence marker would be clearer; for example, “Furthermore” does not show the relationship between harvesting and crushing. Some references are also difficult to follow, as in “the purfying juice transfer into the evaporator machine.” Use a separate overview paragraph and group the stages into logical sections, with consistent links such as “Next” and “At the final stage.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “crush,” “evaporator,” “centrifuge,” and “sugar crystals,” which helps communicate the stages. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the description harder to understand: “crushig,” “purfying,” “limeestone,” and “sryrup” are examples. Several combinations are also unnatural, such as “the sugar cane transport in to the crushig area” and “significant round container.” The phrase “pure refine sugar” is not an accurate or natural description of the final product. Build accuracy with standard process terms and collocations, and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more precise without needing unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a time clause in “when the sugar cane grow fully” and a sequence of process descriptions. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “The diagram illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “it took around 12-18 months to grow proper” has an incomplete construction. In “the sugar cane transport in to the crushig area,” the passive form is missing, and “syrup pour into the centrifuge” also needs a correctly formed passive verb. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, particularly after full stops. Practise accurate passive forms for process descriptions and check each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb.
