Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main stages in the correct order, from growing the cane for 12–18 months through crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and drying and cooling. You also include a brief overview and describe the final product. However, the response is under the required 150 words, so several stages are only briefly reported. Some details are missing or unclear: the diagram shows harvesting by both machine and hand, and the centrifuge separates sugar crystals from syrup, but your account does not explain what happens to the separated syrup. The overview also says only that sugar is manufactured after multiple steps rather than summarising the process’s key transformation from cane to crystals. Develop these features and meet the minimum length to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable sequence, and the paragraph labels for the introduction and overview help distinguish the opening from the process description. Connectors such as “At first,” “after that,” and “at the end” also guide the reader through the stages. However, the body is presented as one paragraph, and the progression becomes less clear where sentences run together, particularly around “becomes a syrup. ceafter that syrup send for centrifuge.” The final sentence, “after this all process sugar is ready for use,” repeats the endpoint without adding much information. Use separate, logically grouped paragraphs and clearer sentence boundaries; vary linking expressions and ensure each reference, such as “this,” clearly identifies the stage or material being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “crushing,” “purified,” “limestone filter,” “evaporate,” “syrup,” and “sugar crystals,” which allows the reader to follow the basic production stages. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “begining,” “seprate,” “crystasls,” and “heatup.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “sugar making from sugar cane” and “farmer harvesting.” Choose standard process collocations such as “sugar production from sugar cane” and “the cane is harvested.” Use precise terms consistently—for example, “liquid” or “water” rather than “extra waste” for the material removed during crushing—and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to describe a sequence using both simple statements and linked clauses, and the reader can generally identify the intended stages. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “sugar cane grow in 12 to 18 month” needs a passive form and plural time expression, while “Purified juice heatup and evaporate” lacks the appropriate auxiliary and verb forms. The sentence beginning “during crushing” also has an unclear structure, and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Practise using accurate passive constructions for process descriptions, such as “The juice is purified” and “The syrup is sent to a centrifuge,” alongside shorter, correctly punctuated sentences.
