Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
How sugar is produced from sugar cane
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Sugar is made through sugar cane and in this diagram it shows the whole process of making sugar from sugar cane.
The sugar cane crop is produces in august and september and it is a 12-18 months crop, usually sugar cane crop produces in lower Punjab, Pakistan. When the sugar cane crop is ready to harvest then the farmers harvest the crop and load in trucks to deliver in sugar mills for makinmg a sugar. After reaching in sugar mills they use sugar cane to produces different things like sugar, juices etc. In this picture the third step is crushing the sugar canes and produce the juice they they purifiying the juise through different filters called Limestone filter. In Limestone heat the boiler and it will change juice into syrup. After evaporate, in the next step the syrup centrifuge seprates sugar crystals from syrup. In the end the drying and coolong process start and after this the sugar is ready.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main stages from growing and harvesting through crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and final drying and cooling, so the response is recognisably about the process. However, the task is only partly addressed because there is no clear overview of the process as a whole, and several details are added that are not shown in the diagram. The claims about August and September, lower Punjab, farmers transporting cane by truck, and producing juices or other products are unsupported. Some stages are also described inaccurately: the diagram shows heat applied in an evaporator, not a limestone boiler, and the limestone filter is used to purify the juice. Focus on the diagram’s sequence and key transformations, without adding outside information.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a broadly chronological order, and phrases such as “In the next step” and “In the end” help signal progression. However, the organisation is limited: the opening repeats the task rather than giving a concise overview, and the whole account is presented as one paragraph with little separation between the growing stage and the factory stages. Some links are unclear or repetitive, as in “they they purifiying,” while “After evaporate” does not clearly connect the evaporation stage to the next one. Group the stages into a clear introduction/overview and a logically sequenced description, and use accurate transitions such as “After the juice is purified” and “The resulting syrup is then centrifuged.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use several relevant process terms, including “crushing,” “Limestone filter,” “syrup,” “centrifuge,” and “drying and cooling,” which help communicate the main stages. However, the vocabulary range is limited and some word choices or collocations make the description difficult to follow. For example, “the sugar cane crop is produces” and “In Limestone heat the boiler” do not express the intended process clearly; “different filters” is also less precise than the single limestone filter shown. Spelling errors such as “purifiying,” “juise,” “seprates,” and “coolong” are noticeable. Use precise process verbs and check spelling, especially for key technical terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences, including a conditional clause in “When the sugar cane crop is ready to harvest,” but the range is limited and complex constructions are often faulty. Errors occur in verb forms and agreement: “the crop is produces,” “they purifiying,” and “the syrup centrifuge seprates.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention; the opening joins two ideas with “and,” while several later stages are run together. These errors sometimes make the process hard to understand, particularly around purification and evaporation. Practise accurate present-simple passive forms for process descriptions, such as “the juice is purified” and “the syrup is heated,” and use shorter, complete sentences where needed.
