Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
How sugar is produced from sugar cane
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The pictorial representation illustrates the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.
Overall the sugar cane growing takes months and the end was drying it and cool the sugar.
To begin with, Sugar cane takes 12 to 18 months for growing and the second step is harvesting the sugar cane by farmers the cut the sugar cane. Third step is crushing the sugar cane into juice. Fourth step is purifying juice from limestone filter.
Fifth step is evaporate the juice becomes syrup in heat. Sixth step is centrifuge the juice and seperate sugar crystal from syrup. Seventh step is sugar is ready and left it for dryinng and cooling for a time.
In conclusion, the manufactoring process for making sugar from sugar cane the all process gives knowledge about how the sugar was made and how many difficulties the farmer and the person face to form the sugar from sugar cane it look like simple but the process is longer.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the process as sugar production and report the main sequence, including the 12–18-month growing period, harvesting, crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and drying and cooling. This gives the reader a basic account of the diagram. However, the overview is unclear: “the end was drying it and cool the sugar” does not clearly summarise the process as a whole. Some details are imprecise, such as saying farmers cut the cane, when the diagram shows both manual and mechanical harvesting. The final comments about “difficulties” faced by farmers and the process looking simple are not supported by the visual. Focus on an accurate overview and describe only information shown, including that evaporation turns juice into syrup and centrifuging separates crystals from syrup.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The stages are presented in the correct general order, and the numbered sequence (“Third step,” “Fourth step,” and so on) helps the reader follow the process. The response also separates the opening, process description, and conclusion into paragraphs. However, progression is quite mechanical because nearly every stage is introduced with a number, and the final paragraph repeats the topic rather than adding a useful summary. Connections between stages are sometimes unclear, particularly in “Seventh step is sugar is ready and left it for dryinng and cooling.” Use a more concise overview, group related stages into paragraphs, and connect them with varied process language such as “after this,” “the resulting syrup,” and “finally.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “crushing,” “limestone filter,” “evaporate,” and “centrifuge,” so the reader can recognise the main operations. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “the end was drying it and cool the sugar” is awkward, while “the all process gives knowledge” does not express a clear process feature. Spelling errors such as “seperate,” “dryinng,” and “manufactoring” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and avoid unsupported evaluative language. For instance, describe the cane as being “harvested,” the juice as “filtered,” and the crystals as “dried and cooled.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response mainly uses simple sentences and attempts a few longer constructions, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors occur in verb forms and sentence structure, as in “the second step is harvesting the sugar cane by farmers the cut the sugar cane,” and “Seventh step is sugar is ready and left it for dryinng and cooling.” The opening overview, “the end was drying it and cool the sugar,” also has an unclear structure and mismatched verb forms. These problems sometimes make relationships between stages difficult to understand. Practise forming complete passive sentences for processes, such as “The cane is harvested and then crushed,” and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and consistent verb forms. More accurate simple sentences would improve clarity before adding complex structures.
