Student answer (Band 5.0)

Sugar cane was firstly grow in a suitiable land and have proper water and nutiruents . Sugar cane can be grown in its proper season . When the crop rise at its limit then the farmer harvest their crops. When the crops are harvest the farmer sell their crop in the market. Sugar cane are firstly crush in the machine and a liquid produce then that liquid was purify in a limestone filter. The process of purifing suger cane was consist of sevral steps the one is evaporation. In this process sugercane is heated at high temperature where juice becomes like a syrup. Then these wapers are saperated from suger crystals . When sugercane is heated at a very high temperature all the impurities becomes vapoure and the crystals becomes sugar . Then these crystals are firstly dried and then the next process is to cool that dried crystals . And finaly suger is produced .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several central stages, including crushing, limestone filtration, evaporation, separation, and drying and cooling, so the response is recognisably about sugar production. However, it only partially reports the diagram and includes unsupported details: growing on suitable land with proper water and nutrients, harvesting at a crop limit, and selling the crop in a market are not shown. The overview is also unclear; the process should be presented as a sequence from growing cane for 12–18 months through harvesting and processing to the final sugar. Some descriptions misstate the stages, especially the claim that impurities become vapour. To improve, focus on the diagram’s actual steps and explain the main transformation from cane to juice, syrup, crystals, and finished sugar without adding outside information.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response follows a broadly chronological order and uses sequence markers such as “When,” “Then,” and “And finally,” which helps the reader follow parts of the process. However, there is no clear overview or paragraphing, and the progression is weakened by moving from the diagram to an unshown market stage before returning to processing. Several links are repetitive or unclear, such as “The process of purifing suger cane was consist of sevral steps the one is evaporation,” which does not clearly connect purification to evaporation. Organise the response into a brief overview and a sequence of stages, using precise links such as “After filtration” and “The resulting syrup is then centrifuged.” This would make the progression clearer and reduce mechanical transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “limestone filter,” “evaporation,” “syrup,” “crystals,” and “dried,” showing a basic range suited to the topic. However, vocabulary is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the account less clear, for example “saperated,” “wapers,” “suger,” and “vapoure.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “crop rise at its limit” and “proper season.” Use the diagram’s specific terms consistently, particularly “harvested,” “crushed,” “purified,” and “centrifuge,” and avoid describing processes with vague wording. Careful proofreading of spelling and choosing accurate process verbs would make the meaning easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example “When the crops are harvest the farmer sell their crop in the market,” but control of sentence structure and verb forms is weak. Errors occur frequently: “was firstly grow,” “are firstly crush,” and “was purify” use incorrect passive forms, while “the farmer sell” and “all the impurities becomes” show agreement problems. Tense and number are also inconsistent across the description. These errors sometimes make the process difficult to interpret, particularly in the explanation of evaporation and separation. Practise the passive voice used for process diagrams: “the cane is crushed,” “the juice is purified,” and “the crystals are dried and cooled.” Short, accurate sentences would help establish control before adding more complex structures.
