Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrates how sugar is produced , showing the different stages involed from the beginning to the final product.

Overall, the process consists of seven main stage beginning with Growing(12-18 months) and ending with sugar of drying and cooling. During this process, the material undergo several steps before the final products is ready.

Intially, growing sugar canes take place, in which sugar canes collected or prepares. In the net stage, the material is transferred to harvesting machine in two part. where the second harvesting processes by people. Follwing this, crusing is carried out. After that, the material is mixed with and purifying juice. That juice filter by limestone filter if necessary, and sent for further processing. Once this stage is completted, the material is ready for the next step.

In the subsequent stage, the material is heat depending on the process ahow in the diagram. It is then transfeered to another processing. After this, centrifuge takes place, and the products gradually reaches its final form. Finally, the finishied products is dying and cooling before begin used or consumers. This marks the completion of the entire process.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the process as having seven stages and give a broad start-to-finish overview, which addresses the task’s central purpose. However, several important stages are either inaccurately described or left unclear. For example, “the material is mixed with and purifying juice” does not explain that the juice is purified through a limestone filter, and the evaporator stage is reduced to being heated without stating that the juice becomes syrup. The centrifuge’s role in separating sugar crystals from syrup is also omitted. The ending, “sugar of drying and cooling,” misrepresents the final stage: sugar is dried and cooled. To strengthen the report, describe each stage accurately and include the key transformations and separation shown in the diagram.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by stages in sequence, with transitions such as “Initially,” “Following this,” and “Finally.” This gives the reader a general sense of progression. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, and the sequence becomes difficult to follow in places. For instance, “In the net stage, the material is transferred to harvesting machine in two part. where the second harvesting processes by people” does not clearly connect the two harvesting methods to crushing. Later, “It is then transferred to another processing” leaves the next step unspecified. Use clearer stage-by-stage sentences and refer consistently to the juice, syrup, and sugar so that each transition has an unmistakable link.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “limestone filter,” “centrifuge,” and “drying and cooling,” and the sequence markers help convey the topic. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts of the description difficult to understand. Phrases such as “sugar canes collected or prepares,” “mixed with and purifying juice,” and “the products gradually reaches its final form” are not natural or precise descriptions of the diagram. There are also misspellings such as “involed,” “crusing,” and “completted.” Build a more accurate process vocabulary and check spelling and word forms; naming the material at each stage will also reduce vague repetition of “material.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a mixture of sentence forms, including a relative clause in “in which sugar canes collected or prepares” and a time clause beginning “Once this stage is completted.” However, many sentences contain errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, or sentence boundaries, and these sometimes obscure the intended meaning. Examples include “the process consists of seven main stage,” “the material undergo several steps,” and “the finished products is dying and cooling.” The sentence beginning “In the net stage” also breaks after “part,” leaving an incomplete and confusing construction. Practise forming complete clauses with a clear subject and correctly inflected verb, and check singular/plural agreement. Simpler, accurate sentences would make the process easier to follow while you develop more complex structures.
