Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrate the producation of making sugar from sugar cane. It is a liner process and its contain seven steps.

Overall, starting from the growing sugarcane and then harvesting sugar cane.till the end of the drying and cooling process untill the getting refined sugar.

Firstly, sugar cane was grown in the period of 12 to 18 month until they become matured. After that harvesting can be done manully or by machines whatever is easier or benefical.

Futhermore, crushing process is done until it converted into the juice form and transfer to the limestone filter for purifying the juice. In the 5 step juice is pore into the evaporator to get syrup. Applying heat until the all the water droplet evaporate.

Moreover, after getting the syrup it places into the centrifuge to get sugar crystal and separated from syrup.collecting the sugar crystals from syrup then put into the large container for drying and cooling purpose. In the end after drying and cooling we got a refined sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover the main stages in the correct order, from growing and harvesting through crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and drying and cooling. The overview identifies the process as linear and notes its seven steps, while the 12–18-month growing period and the two harvesting methods are relevant details. This gives the reader a sound account of the diagram. Some details are less fully or precisely reported: for example, the limestone filter is mentioned, but its role in purifying the juice could be stated more clearly, and the final product is called “refined sugar,” which is not a label shown in the diagram. To strengthen the response further, describe the key transformations precisely, especially that heating turns juice into syrup and the centrifuge separates sugar crystals from syrup.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall sequence and is divided into an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the stages. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “After that,” and “Moreover” help the reader follow the process. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several transitions doing little more than announce another step. Some links between ideas are also unclear: “collecting the sugar crystals from syrup then put into the large container” does not clearly connect the centrifuge stage to drying and cooling. Punctuation and spacing around transitions are inconsistent, and the overview sentence is difficult to follow. Use fewer, more purposeful linking phrases and make each sentence’s relationship to the previous stage explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “crushing,” “limestone filter,” “evaporator,” “syrup,” and “centrifuge,” which helps communicate the diagram’s stages. There is also some attempt to vary wording, such as “purifying” and “separated.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “producation,” “liner,” “Futhermore,” and “pore.” Several phrases are awkward or imprecise for a process description, such as “the producation of making sugar,” “whatever is easier or benefical,” and “for drying and cooling purpose.” Aim for accurate process collocations and avoid adding evaluative language that is not needed. Proofreading spelling and choosing concise, precise verbs would make the description clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the overview and clauses with “until” and “after.” The sequence is generally understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “The diagram illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “its contain seven steps” uses an incorrect verb form. Tense and sentence construction also shift awkwardly in “After that harvesting can be done” and “it places into the centrifuge.” Some sentences are fragments or lack clear grammatical links, as in “Applying heat until the all the water droplet evaporate.” Work on consistent present-tense descriptions, agreement, articles, and complete sentence structures. Clearer sentence boundaries and punctuation would also help the reader follow the process.
