Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diadram shows the process for making sugar from sugar cane. It mean how to sugar make from sugar cane.

Overall, this process consist of seven stages. First of all, the sugar cane has to be grown in the field, it harvesting through the machines and farms. Then it has to the process of crushing after the long processing it send to the centrifuge where it seperates sugar crystals from syrup and then they are dried and cooled.

Initially, the sugar cane are grown in the field and they growing within 12 to 18 months. After they are grown then harvesting through the machine or farm himself. Thus, they are processed of the crushing. When they convert in juice, it put in limestone filter that become to purfying juice. In after they are evaporated whenever juice becomes syrups. Therefore, they put in centrifuge where they are separated sugar crystals from syrup. Finally, they are dried and cooled.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the process as sugar production and give a clear overall account of its seven stages, including the growing period of 12 to 18 months and the final separation, drying and cooling. Most key stages are reported in the correct order, and you mention both harvesting methods. However, some details are unclear or incomplete: “farms” does not accurately describe the person harvesting by hand, and the role of heat in the evaporator is not explained. The crushing stage and limestone filtration are included, but their functions could be described more precisely. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the transformation from cane to juice, syrup and sugar, then explain each stage accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview and a further paragraph describing the stages, so there is some organisation and the reader can follow the general sequence. However, the overview repeats information later, and progression is weakened by unclear links such as “Thus, they are processed of the crushing” and “In after they are evaporated.” Several connectors—“Then,” “Thus,” “Therefore” and “Finally”—are used mechanically rather than showing precise relationships. Pronouns such as “they” also make it unclear whether you mean the cane, juice or crystals. Organise the stages in one clear sequence and use specific references, for example “the extracted juice” and “the resulting crystals,” to make the connections easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “crushing,” “limestone filter,” “evaporated,” “centrifuge” and “sugar crystals,” which helps communicate the main stages. However, the range is limited and several word choices, forms and spellings are inaccurate or awkward: “diadram,” “seperates,” “purfying,” “farms” and “syrups.” Phrases such as “it mean how to sugar make” and “they are processed of the crushing” are also difficult to understand. Aim for accurate process collocations and consistent technical terms, such as “the cane is crushed,” “the juice is purified,” and “the syrup is spun in a centrifuge.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your meaning clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the sequence is generally understandable. However, errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and articles occur throughout. For example, “this process consist” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the sugar cane are grown” has incorrect agreement and “they growing” lacks an auxiliary. The construction “it put in limestone filter” is missing a passive verb and an article; “it is put through a limestone filter” would be clearer. Some longer sentences join several stages without secure grammatical links, as in “First of all, the sugar cane has to be grown in the field, it harvesting…” Practise accurate passive forms for process descriptions and separate stages into complete sentences.
