How sugar is produced from sugar cane
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates that layout how the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane is done in the variety of industry.
Overall, it is clear that the process comnsists seven stages in which initiatw with Growing sugar canes for 12-18 months in the land. while the ended with are making pure sufar with passed through many stages.
To commence, the process begin with Growing the sugar canes plant and after 12- 18 months it cultivate from the land. Moreover, their two main way that with assist of modern machines or with hand-made has to Harvesting. Furthermore, after cutting the long sugar plant it Crushing into machines which make frash Juice.
Subsequently, the liquid are passing through the Purifying juice with facilitate of limestone filter. In addition, the water droplet which is heat in the high amount of temperature and Evaporator and convert juice to syrup. Finally, it transform into the big circluar wheel in the Centrifuge which is separates sugar crystals from the syrup. As a result, all the sugar are move into big cup which make to Drying and cooling the sugar and make small particles with frash.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main sequence from growing cane through harvesting, crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and drying/cooling, and you include the 12–18-month growing period and both harvesting methods. The overview also identifies the start and end of the process. Some details, however, are unclear or inaccurate: the diagram shows juice passing through a limestone filter, not water droplets being heated, and the final stage produces sugar rather than explicitly making “small particles.” The overview’s description of “pure sugar” is also not clearly supported by the diagram. To strengthen the response, describe the transformations precisely and make the overall summary clearer, for example, that cane is processed into juice, then syrup, before sugar crystals are separated and dried.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by stages in process order, with paragraph breaks helping to separate the main sections. Connectors such as “To commence,” “Subsequently,” and “Finally” guide the reader through the sequence. However, some linking is mechanical, and several sentences do not connect their ideas clearly. For example, “In addition, the water droplet which is heat…” makes the relationship between purification and evaporation difficult to follow, while “As a result” does not clearly introduce the final drying stage. Use simpler, more precise transitions and ensure each sentence describes one stage before moving to the next. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow what “it” refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “limestone filter,” “evaporator,” “syrup,” and “sugar crystals,” which helps communicate the stages. There are also attempts at more specific wording, such as “centrifuge.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling sometimes make the description difficult to understand: “layout how,” “hand-made,” “frash,” and “big circluar wheel” are unsuitable or misspelled, and “water droplet” misidentifies the material shown. Some phrases are also unnecessarily vague, such as “variety of industry.” Build a more precise process vocabulary and check spelling and word forms; prefer the diagram’s terms where possible, such as “juice,” “syrup,” and “sugar crystals.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the response generally follows the process sequence. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction reduce clarity. For example, “the process begin” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the liquid are passing” has an agreement error and an awkward tense choice. The overview phrase “the process comnsists seven stages in which initiatw with” is also structurally incomplete; a clearer form would be “The process consists of seven stages, beginning with…” Some sentences combine clauses without clear grammatical links, particularly the description of evaporation. Practise accurate passive forms for process descriptions, such as “the juice is heated” and “the crystals are separated,” alongside well-controlled complex sentences.
