Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given process diagram elucidates the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane. This process is a jint venture of human and machines which work together for a single final product.

Overall, it is evident that how manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane is carried ou by following more then seven distinctive steps. Additionally, the process start from growing the sugar canes almost 12 to 18 month and last ends at drying and cooling sugar. Furtgermore, all steps are very importent and relate to each other.

Talkig about initial steps, first step is growing the sugar canes in the farm and this process take time 12 to 18 months, which is then followed by harvesting throug the big harvesing sugar canes cuting machine and sometime former cut sugar canes by their hands, then comes sugar canes crunhing machine for sugar juice, next step is limestone filter for purifying juice, then start heat process its called evaporator and juice become syrup. All these processes complete almost half of total procedure.

Pouring some light on finalzing steps. these final steps are very critical to getting the finished product. Final products are obtained by this step of centrifuge this process separares sugar crystals from syrup. The next phase is of drying and cooling the sugar. and this is the final product are ready.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers the main stages in the correct general order, including the 12–18-month growing period, the two harvesting methods, crushing, limestone filtration, evaporation, centrifuging, and drying and cooling. The overview also identifies the process’s beginning and end, so the key features are recognisable. However, some details are unclear or imprecise: “more then seven distinctive steps” is inaccurate because the diagram presents seven stages, and “all steps are very importent” does not explain the process. The final stage is mentioned, but the account could clarify that centrifuging separates sugar crystals from syrup before the crystals are dried and cooled. More precise reporting of the diagram’s relationships would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by the earlier stages and then the final stages. Sequencing expressions such as “first,” “then,” and “next” help the reader follow the process. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, with repeated stage-by-stage transitions, and the division into “initial steps” and “finalizing steps” does not fully resolve the long, crowded sentence describing the early stages. Some links are unclear, particularly “All these processes complete almost half of total procedure,” which interrupts the sequence without adding useful information. The final paragraph also contains a sentence fragment-like transition and an abrupt ending. Grouping related stages into clearer sentences and using references such as “this mixture” or “the resulting syrup” would improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “limestone filter,” “evaporator,” “syrup,” and “centrifuge,” and these terms help convey the diagram’s subject. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, for example “jint venture,” “crunhing,” “separares,” and “finalzing.” Some expressions are also unnatural or vague, such as “sugar canes crunhing machine for sugar juice” and “Pouring some light on finalzing steps.” Repetition of “process,” “step,” and “sugar” further limits flexibility. Aim for accurate process collocations and concise wording, such as “the cane is crushed to extract juice” and “the syrup is processed in a centrifuge.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to use complex structures, including “which is then followed by…” and “this process take time 12 to 18 months,” but control is inconsistent. Some sentences communicate the sequence, yet errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are evident. For example, “the process start” should use a third-person singular verb, while “this process take time” needs “takes” and a more accurate construction. The sentence beginning “Overall, it is evident that how…” is not grammatically well formed, and “and this is the final product are ready” combines incompatible structures. Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, especially in the long sentence listing several stages. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then connect them with controlled subordinate clauses.
