How sugar is produced from sugar cane
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram show that the process of producing sugar from suger can.Overall the process consist of seven main stages, begning with the growing of sugar can and ending with the drying and cooling of sugar crystal.First off all, sugar can growing in fields for appraxiomately 12 to 18 months until it is fully mature. After that,it is harvested either by using a machine or by hand.In third stage, the harvested sugar can is crashed in a machine to extract the juice.Next the extracted the juice is purified by passing it through a limestone filter. In the fifth stage, the purified juice is heated in an evaporate until it becomes syrup.Afterward, the syrup is placed in a centrifuge, which separate the sugar crystals from the remaining liquid. Finally, the sugar crystals are dried and cooled, resulting in the finished sugar result.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main stages in the correct order, from growing the cane for 12–18 months through harvesting, crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and final drying and cooling. The overview identifies the seven-stage process and its start and end points, while details such as harvesting by machine or by hand and separating crystals from liquid are relevant and accurate. However, the final product is described awkwardly as “finished sugar result,” and some stages could be explained more clearly. The response also contains 129 words, below the required 150, so the task is not fully developed. Add a little more precise detail about the process and ensure the response meets the stated minimum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The process is presented in a logical sequence, and signposts such as “After that,” “Next,” “Afterward,” and “Finally” help the reader follow the stages. The opening overview also gives the reader a useful map of the process. However, the response is written as one continuous paragraph, so the overview and stage-by-stage description are not clearly separated. Some transitions feel mechanical because nearly every sentence begins with a sequencing phrase. There is also a confusing construction in “Next the extracted the juice is purified,” which interrupts the flow. Use a separate overview paragraph, group the stages into logical sections, and vary transitions while keeping the sequence clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “limestone filter,” “evaporate,” “syrup,” “centrifuge,” and “sugar crystals.” These terms show an appropriate attempt to describe the diagram precisely. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “suger can,” “begning,” “appraxiomately,” and “crashed” for “crushed.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “sugar can growing in fields” and “finished sugar result” do not communicate the intended meaning naturally. Check spelling carefully and learn common process collocations, such as “sugar cane is grown,” “the cane is crushed,” and “the finished product.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and some more complex forms, such as “until it is fully mature” and the relative clause “which separate the sugar crystals from the remaining liquid.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The diagram show” needs subject–verb agreement, and “the process consist” should use the correct verb form. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “In third stage” and “Next the extracted the juice is purified.” Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after several commas and full stops. Practise accurate present-simple descriptions, agreement, and article use, then proofread sentence boundaries and spacing.
