Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, people debate that payments during the shopping will be done by using cards or using gadgets rather than by cash. This essay will explore the reasons for this trends and possible changes in the future.

In this world of digitalization, there is lots opportunities whereby people would be using cards or phones to pay their bills in future as it is convenient. This is mainly because public do not have to go to banks or nearby ATMs to withdraw money. Moreover, these days, cards and e-wallet are convenient are on the tips of finger and are accepted by all stores and organizations.

On the other hand, some population will not be happy to give up utilizing cash as they lack the knowledge of technologies. Uneducated people as well as senior citizen would feel comfortable to use cash compared to the cards or e-wallet. For example, my grandfather do not like the idea of using cards. Despite of teaching him to use cards, he struggled in learning and he used to say that it is proud moment to carry physical money rather than cards as it can be seen whereas we do not see the money in cards or phone.

To wrap up, I think this changes will happen one day and would bring lots of changes as it is easy to use where you do not have to carry physical cash. However, some disadvantaged people will not be satisfied to give up cash as it is difficult for them to use.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the likelihood of a cashless society and the reasons why some people might resist this change. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention convenience and the lack of technological knowledge as key points, these could be expanded with more depth or specific examples beyond the personal anecdote about your grandfather. The position is clear, but the essay would benefit from a more thorough exploration of the implications of a cashless society to reach a higher band. The structure is logical, but the content remains at a fairly general level throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'To wrap up' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel a bit repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between ideas could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of the argument is easy to follow, which meets the requirements for a Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'digitalization', 'e-wallet', and 'disadvantaged'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'payments during the shopping' (should be 'shopping payments') and 'on the tips of finger' (should be 'at our fingertips'). You also use 'lots of' twice, which is slightly informal and repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that collocations are used correctly to convey your meaning more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('my grandfather do not like', 'this changes will happen') and prepositional errors ('Despite of teaching him'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips that occur throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
