Student answer (Band 7.0)

In this technological era, ways of life are changing every day. It could also include the online transactions instead if using cash to payments. I believe that it will happen eventually and its a positive trend but still few people prefer to use cash instead of cards or e-transfer. I will discuss this in upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, it is possibly true that online transactions and card payments can take over the use of cash, thanks to the technology. if this happen then that rate of robbery such as pocket theft will reduce significantly. To explain, if people stop carrying money around, the fear of getting robbed will be demolish. It is possible that their cards could get stolen but they need the PIN to make any transaction which only the cards owner should know. In case our card get stolen, we can call the bank anytime to ask them to block the card and get a new one instead. Apart from this, if using mobile transfer it will be even more easier because we do not have to carry any card either.

On other hand side, there are still some people that are not agree with stopping the use of money. This could be because they are not used to the modern technology and can face problems with using the mobile payment system. For example, my grandmother owns a cosmetic shop, she is in business from 40 years and manage all financial accounts herself but due to the latest technology and phone payments make it difficult for her to keep up. She needs our help to manage payments and expenses which make her rely on us. As an independent businesswomen, it are hard for her to accept.

Overall, I agree that payment system by phone and cards could replace the cash payments in near future but still there are people unfamiliar with the use of technology that feel uneasy because of this change. The best way to solve this problem is to teach them how to use it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the likelihood of a cashless society and the reasons why some people might be reluctant to adopt it. The position is clear from the introduction. The ideas are relevant, such as the reduction in theft and the challenges faced by the elderly. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on robbery is a good start, but it could be expanded with more nuanced points about digital security or privacy concerns. The example of the grandmother is personal and relevant, which helps to support the argument well. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, though further elaboration on the broader societal implications would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'Apart from this,' and 'On other hand side,' though some are slightly mechanical or contain minor errors (e.g., 'On other hand side' should be 'On the other hand'). Referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate. While the flow is generally smooth, the transition between ideas could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'online transactions,' 'financial accounts,' and 'digital technology.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'demolish' (should be 'eliminated' or 'reduced') and 'not agree' (should be 'disagree'). The range is adequate for the task, but the lack of more precise or sophisticated vocabulary prevents a higher score. The errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('if this happen,' 'it are hard for her') and article usage ('the technology'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in sentence construction. Despite these errors, the meaning is consistently clear, and the reader is not required to struggle to understand the writer's intent. Improving control over basic grammar and verb forms would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
