Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this technological era, people will become cashless while buying products for daily consumption because of latest inventions such as net banking, credit cards or other mobile applications. However, some people would not be able to adapt this change easily. In this essay, I will explain the reasons behind this problem and conclude with my personal view point.

Technology is playing an essential role in this contemporary world and cashless payment is also one of these invention. I strongly feel that people will feel comfortable to pay by using debit or credit cards instead of cash because this approach gives them more security and flexibility. For example, if they travel in a crowded public transport, they do not need to worry of robbery. Also, people can easily pay any random amount to buy anything using mobile apps which is difficult with cash.

On the flip side, a group of people who do not embrace new changes in their life feel challenging while adapting new process. Additionally, a few individuals do not feel comfortable while learning a technology which was not the part of their lives previously. For example, a person of 70 year old who rely on cash for purchasing his grocery, would not be interested swipe a card. Apart from this, people do not want to access mobile applications at any mall or shop because of safety reasons.

Overall, I would like to say that technology is a blessing to human beings, however, it has advantages and disadvantages both. It depends on the perspective of a particular individual that how he considers it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the likelihood of a cashless society and the reasons why some people might be reluctant to adopt it. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like the elderly or safety concerns, the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. For instance, you mention 'safety reasons' regarding mobile apps but do not elaborate on the fear of hacking or data breaches. The position is clear, but the conclusion is a bit generic and does not fully synthesise the points discussed. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a deeper analysis of the 'why' behind your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For example', and 'On the flip side' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'one of these invention' (should be plural) and 'this approach'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological era', 'contemporary world', and 'embrace new changes'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'adapt this change' (should be 'adapt to this change') and 'do not feel comfortable while learning a technology' (should be 'learning to use technology'). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'do not need to worry of robbery' (should be 'worry about robbery'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('a person of 70 year old who rely' should be 'relies') and article usage ('a technology' should be 'technology'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'it depends on the perspective of a particular individual that how he considers it'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are punctuated correctly.
