IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, people may no longer be able to pay for things in shops using cash. All payments may have to be made by card or using phones. Do you think this will happen one day? Why do you think some people might not be happy to give up using cash?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
I totally agree with the statement that one day every payment will turn into digital form by using phones and physical cards. Nowadays, people barely uses cash as there are many chances of forgetting the wallet and also the cases of robbery are also rising to the sky.
There are many benefits of using digital payment. There is no need to apply math in counting every penny, no need to carry wallet or purse, payments also get quicker without time wastage and less chances of mistake in calculation. I usually, forget my purse in public transport so this is very useful and beneficial for people like me.
However, some folks might not like to give up using cash as it became their comfortable method of payment. For example, older people, who do not uses technologies or might face difficulties in using phones and also people who do not trust these technologies in fear of getting scammed. In fact, they are not totally incorrect because there are many disadvantages of using digital payment as cases of frauds are incling day by day. Recently it happened with one of my family member, my grand father. He was new to using apple wallet and making online payments. Some scammer just messaged him that your credit card bill is over due and you have to give us the One-Time-Password to re-imburse your charge as this was your genuiene mistake and he was left with very less money in his account.
So, I believe that enough education about these payment methods would not cause harm as the raio of benefit is more in comparison to demerits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the likelihood of a cashless future and the reasons why some people are reluctant to adopt it. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of digital payments are listed, they are presented as a simple list rather than being fully extended. The personal example regarding the grandfather is relevant and adds depth, but the essay would benefit from more sophisticated analysis of the societal implications of a cashless economy to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'For example', and 'In fact', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the benefits of digital payments and the personal anecdote about the grandfather feels slightly abrupt. Overall, the information is arranged coherently, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 're-imburse' and 'genuiene', though there are spelling errors ('genuiene', 'raio', 'incling'). Some phrasing is slightly informal or imprecise, such as 'rising to the sky' or 'apply math'. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of academic or formal terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people barely uses', 'do not uses') and article usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The use of complex sentences is present, but they are often marred by minor slips. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
