IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future, people may no longer be able to pay for things in shops using cash. All payments may have to be made by card or using phones. Do you think this will happen one day? Why do you think some people might not be happy to give up using cash?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In upcoming time, individuals will not be able to pay for their stuffs in stores via cash. All transactions might be done through credit or debit cards or online payments. I believe that this situation is going to happen in the future, however few individuals will not be satisfied from this change.

Firstly, nowadays most of the people are getting used to pay via online applications. There are several app which are available online and it is very simple and safe for the young generation. For instant, I have seen couple of students from university buying a coffee from a cafe and they did not have their wallet with them, so that they do not worried about anything to carry and it was super fast from them via online payment. Moreover, it seems like very safe as per current situation, the cases of stealing money and other precious things are increasing after Covid.

However, I figured out that there might be few people who will be unhappy, and there are couple of reasons behind it. One of the most common reason is that they do not have trust on online transactions, as they have some kind of fear for loosing their money. Other than that most of half aged people they still do pay via cash for their groceries and they try to avoid process for returning their stuff, because it takes time for them to understand things about online payments.

In conclusion, younger people have already started using online producers, while other are still using via cash, which is not safe as per current scenarios. There are strong chances that this change will happen super soon.
