IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, people may no longer be able to pay for things in shops using cash. All payments may have to be made by card or using phones. Do you think this will happen one day? Why do you think some people might not be happy to give up using cash?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary era, it is certain that in the coming years individual's will be unable to pay for things by the cash because all payments will need to be made by cards or online payments methods. I am agreeing with this notion that this will happen on day, and some people will not be happy to use electric paying methods because they will not be happy to give up the method of paying by cash.
On the one hand, advancement of technology will make it possible to pay for things by using e-wallets, cards and mobile online methods one day for sure. In addition to it, due to the increasing money thefts, people already avoiding carrying a cash with them and they always trying to make payments by mobile phones because it offers safety and reliability to people. Online payments just need few steps to follow which is easy and convenient and the vast majority of people will choose to pay safely with using phones instead of carrying a cash in the fear of losing it. For example, developed countries already eliminate the cash payments and it is following by developing countries such as India which is partially using cash and online payments. Therefore, in upcoming years online payments will take place of cash methods.
On the other hand, some people might not be happy about this trend due to their comfort level that provided by cash methods, such as counting the money before paying it in the fear of losing it. For instance, particularly old people do not trust the technology because they are mostly less educated and they have not sufficient knowledge about it, so they might be unhappy to give up using cash.
In conclusion, technology will make it easier for individual's for paying all payments by using mobile devices and will eliminate the cash payments and mostly people will be thrilled from this advancement. However, old people should trust technology and have its benefits.
