Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing whether cash will disappear and explaining why some people might hesitate to adopt cashless methods, such as fear of fraud. The position is generally clear, though ideas are somewhat underdeveloped and supported with brief, anecdotal examples rather than deep elaboration. For instance, the mention of India and Apple Pay introduces relevant ideas, but these points lack full extension. The response meets the 250-word minimum requirement. To reach a higher band score, the candidate needs to expand on their arguments with more detailed explanations and fully developed examples regarding the future of cash and public apprehension.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a basic level of organisation, with attempts made to group related ideas into paragraphs, such as discussing international examples like India and Apple Pay. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt transitions and choppy sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and repetitive way (e.g., beginning multiple sentences with 'And' or 'some'). Paragraphing is also inconsistent and mechanical, with several single-sentence paragraphs that hinder the flow of the essay. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and overall cohesion needs significant improvement to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it is repetitive and limited in range. The student attempts some less common terms like 'cashless payment' and 'barcode', but these are offset by frequent word choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'froud things happens' and 'pay any of the purchase by with out cash'. Spelling errors are noticeable throughout the text (e.g., 'feature' for 'future', 'alredy', 'persent', 'openion'). While the meaning can generally be discerned, the lack of precision and lexical flexibility places this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. The majority of sentences are simple or poorly constructed complex forms that contain frequent errors. There are persistent issues with article usage, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation (e.g., 'every body are busy', 'as my openion', and missing spaces after full stops). Errors frequently cause strain for the reader and impede smooth comprehension. To improve, the writer must focus on basic sentence construction, punctuation rules, and reducing the frequency of grammatical slips.
