Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing whether a cashless society will happen and why people might be unhappy about giving up cash, such as concerns over robbery and a preference for physical money. The position is generally clear throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about robbery and digital payments are restated without deep extension or varied supporting examples. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.0, as it addresses the prompt adequately but suffers from under-developed ideas and limited overall depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some attempt at logical organisation. However, the overall progression is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate, mechanical, or awkwardly applied, such as transitional phrases that do not smoothly connect the ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is faulty, making the flow of the argument somewhat disjointed. This level of organisation aligns best with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited range of vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task. There are frequent lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'money play', 'Transition' instead of 'transaction', 'afair' instead of 'fear', and 'concern issue' instead of 'concerning issue'. While attempts are made to use slightly less common vocabulary, the noticeable errors and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band score. These characteristics reflect the standard of Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside frequent, faulty attempts at complex clauses. Numerous grammatical and punctuation errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement errors ('money play', 'everyone rely'), tense confusion, and run-on sentences with incorrect punctuation ('If, you have money then, you can easily...'). These frequent errors frequently impede smooth reading and obscure meaning, placing the performance securely at Band 4.5.
