Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt regarding the future of cash and why some people might be reluctant to give it up. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. While the writer touches on convenience and security, the arguments lack sufficient explanation and examples from personal knowledge. Furthermore, it is important to note that the response does not meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, as it contains only 229 words. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to fully extend their ideas with clearer explanations and concrete examples while ensuring the word count requirement is satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, though progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical cohesive devices. The writer uses basic transition markers such as 'commencing with' and 'To conclude' to structure the text, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points. However, referencing is not always clear, and some links between sentences feel abrupt. To progress to a higher band, the writer should aim for a more sophisticated logical flow and greater flexibility in using cohesive devices without relying on repetitive formulas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts less common words like 'pragmatic' and 'technological', but these are accompanied by spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'simultanelously', 'oniline', 'delighting', and 'twchnologival'. Word formation and collocation issues are also present, including 'change into a habbit' and 'use to with'. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their lexical range and improve accuracy in spelling and word choice to ensure smoother communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, prepositions, and articles, such as 'people are use to with', 'to be agreed with the statements', and 'a considerable amount of people'. Punctuation errors and missing commas also occur. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to increase their grammatical accuracy and practice forming complex sentences with correct control over verb patterns and prepositions.
