Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
First, it must be noted that the response is well under the required minimum length of 250 words, containing only 135 words (with 11 words copied from the prompt excluded), which severely limits the development of the ideas. The response responds to the task only minimally and tangentially. While the student touches upon whether cash will disappear and why some people might be unhappy about it, such as mentioning that cards are useful for online shopping or travel, the ideas are extremely limited and under-developed. The position is not always clear, and the abrupt ending ('In conc') highlights the incomplete nature of the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The information and ideas are not arranged coherently overall, reflecting difficulties in logical organisation and progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the thoughts within and between paragraphs lack clear links. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'Moreover,it is very beneficial' and 'So you must have card oppurtunity'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard for the reader to follow the progression of arguments. To improve, the writer needs to structure paragraphs logically with clear topic sentences and use a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that struggles to convey precise meaning. There are numerous spelling and word-form errors that strain the reader, such as 'definatily', 'preffer', 'mannerd', 'modren', 'cradit', and 'oppurtunity'. Word choice is often unnatural, for example 'card using' instead of 'using cards' or 'card payments'. To reach a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learn accurate spelling for common terms, and use vocabulary with greater precision and awareness of collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex ones. Errors are frequent and often distort meaning. Examples of grammatical and punctuation issues include verb tense and agreement errors ('people definatily use', 'user like'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'Some person don't like to use cards may be forgot the password'. Punctuation is also neglected, particularly with spacing around commas. To progress, the writer needs to focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and reducing the frequency of errors.
