IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, people may no longer be able to pay for things in shops using cash. All payments may have to be made by card or using phones. Do you think this will happen one day? Why do you think some people might not be happy to give up using cash?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Now a days, most of the individuals prefer cash less transactions in day to day life due to several reasons.
To begin with, many individuals prefer online transtions or card transctions because of the safety reasons. Carring huge amount of cash to physical stores is extremely risky. Moreover, many people get their salary credited to their bank accounts and it will consume more time for them to visit bank and get their cash bills.
Furthermore, if they pay using their bank accounts directly, it will easy for them to track their transactions so that they can manage their expenses. Also, it is more flexible for the individuals to shop online using card.
I think in future, there will be more number of people will be using cash less payment and there might be more advancements in technology for online payments but, there is always a need for cash payments. For instance, if a person want to pay for something but unfortunately, their phone might froze, in this type of situation I believe cash transaction is essential.
However, for some people it might be difficult to give up cash transactions. For example, for elderly people and students as they might not have access to phone they are completely dependent on cash transactions. So, for these reasons cash transactions are still important.
To sum up, even though there is a growing trend of cah less transactions, there is always a need of cash based payments. In future, both the transactions are extremely useful.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you predict that cashless payments will become more common, and explain why some people may resist giving up cash. Your position is clear in the conclusion that both payment methods will remain useful. The examples of a phone freezing and older people or students lacking access to a phone are relevant. However, the prediction is not fully resolved: you suggest cashless use will grow, but do not clearly say whether you think shops will eventually stop accepting cash. The reasons for resistance are also less developed than your reasons for using cashless payments. Explain more specifically why access, confidence, privacy, or technology problems could make cash important to these groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement, moving from reasons for cashless payments to your prediction, then to objections and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “However,” and “To sum up” make the stages visible. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. At times, though, the links feel mechanical, and the first three paragraphs focus on cashless benefits before the essay turns to the question of why people may resist cashless systems. A clearer topic sentence for each paragraph and more direct links between claims and examples would make the progression smoother. The reference to “these reasons” in the final paragraph is also somewhat broad.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “cashless transactions,” “bank accounts,” “track their transactions,” and “cash-based payments.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “transtions,” “Carring,” and “cah less.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “cash bills” does not clearly mean cash, and “more number of people” is not idiomatic. Repetition of “transactions,” “cash,” and “people” further limits flexibility. Aim to learn accurate collocations for payment methods and vary repeated terms; this would make your meaning more natural and precise without changing your ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional examples such as “if a person want to pay for something” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “there will be more number of people will be using” combines two incompatible structures; “a person want” needs subject–verb agreement; and “it will easy” is missing a verb. The sentence about elderly people and students is also a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them with connectors, and check agreement and missing verbs during proofreading.
