You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Mr and Mrs Collins,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mr and Mrs Collins,

I am writing this letter in response to your invitation to a surprised birthday party of Chris. Thanking you for the invitation.

Firstly, Chris will enjoy the surprise birthday party because it totally aligns with his nature as I know this kind of surprises make him happy. He is a socially active person and he would appreciate the event of gathering his friends and family members in his birthday event.

Moreover, I want to apologize as I would not be able to attend the celebrations as I have a business meeting on the same day which is very important and I could not get abscount from meeting due to some official committments. I would definitely attend the party next year.

Furthermore, I am planning a family trip to Australia and I would meet him in the next month as I will be in Australia for two weeks and we would have plenty of time to spend with eachother.

Thanking you for considering me inviting for birthda

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why Chris would enjoy the party, provided a reason for your absence, and proposed a future meeting. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend's parents. However, the letter ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('Thanking you for considering me inviting for birthda'), which is a minor omission. To improve, ensure you proofread the conclusion to ensure it is complete and grammatically sound. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You used transition words such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader through your points. While these are effective, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive devices to connect ideas within paragraphs rather than just at the start. The referencing is generally clear, though the abrupt ending slightly disrupts the overall coherence of the closing statement.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'socially active person' and 'official commitments' are appropriate. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'surprised birthday party' (should be 'surprise birthday party') and 'get abscount' (likely meant 'get excused' or 'get time off'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. Expanding your range of collocations will help you reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Thanking you for the invitation' (a fragment) and 'inviting for birthda' (incomplete). There are also minor issues with preposition usage and word forms, such as 'in his birthday event' instead of 'for his birthday'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout most of the letter. To improve, focus on sentence completion and ensuring that verb forms and prepositions are used accurately.
