Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining why Chris will enjoy the party, stating your inability to attend, and proposing an alternative meeting time. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend's parents, although the development of ideas is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on why Chris would specifically enjoy the activities mentioned, rather than just listing them. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left with no confusion regarding your situation or your future plans.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'However I can not attend this due to commitment of work. and I do apologies for that. But defiantly sure...' shows a lack of smooth flow between sentences. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters and others lacking proper spacing. Improving the variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'nevertheless') would help the text flow more naturally and improve the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes that detract from the quality of the writing. For instance, 'responding your last letter' should be 'responding to your last letter', and 'defiantly sure' is a misuse of the word 'definitely'. Additionally, 'birth party' is not a standard collocation; 'birthday party' would be correct. While your meaning is clear, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and lacks the precision expected at higher band levels. Focusing on correct collocations and checking for common spelling errors will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
Your writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('everything gone well' instead of 'everything has gone well'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('I planning to spend' instead of 'I am planning to spend'). Punctuation is also a significant issue, with many sentences lacking proper capitalization or ending punctuation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. You should focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and sentence boundary errors.
