Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining why Chris will enjoy the party, stating why you cannot attend, and proposing an alternative time to meet. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend's parents, although the opening salutation was slightly inconsistent with the instructions provided. The ideas are relevant and clearly linked to the prompt. To improve, ensure that your explanations are more concise and avoid unnecessary repetition, as some of the details regarding your business trip were slightly tangential and could have been streamlined to focus more on the social aspect of the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'as well as' and 'there'. The transition between ideas could be smoother; for instance, the jump from the business meeting to the suggestion of meeting in December is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however') would help the flow of your writing and elevate the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'pleasered', 'occassionaly', 'collage', 'lounch', 'happiely', 'toghether') and word choice issues (e.g., 'invited letter' instead of 'invitation', 'big blast project' is informal/unnatural). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations. Try to proofread your work to catch these basic spelling mistakes before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('he gave me surprises' instead of 'he has given me'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('I am discussing with you on this matter'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage to improve your accuracy.
