The parents of your Australian friend Chris have invited you to a surprise birthday party for him/her. Write a letter to Chris's parents. In your letter:

• say why you think Chris will enjoy the surprise party
• explain why you won't be able to attend the party
• give details of a plan to see Chris at a different time

Dear Mr and Mrs Collins,

Thank you so much for inviting me to Chris's surprise birthday party. I am delighted to hear that you are organizing such a special celebration for him.

I am sure chris will throughly enjoy the surprise party because he loves spending time with friends and family. He is a very sociable person and always appreciates opportunities to celebrate important occasions with the people he cares about. I also know that he has been quite busy recently, so this party will be a wonderful chance for him to relax and enjoy.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the party because I have important work-related training course that weekend. The course was scheduled several months ago, and attendence is mandatory, so I am unable to make any changes to my plans.

However, I would still like to celebrate Chris's birthday. I am planning to meet him the following weekend when he is free. We have already discussed going out for dinner at his favourite restaurant and spending the evening together. I will also give him his birthday gift at that time.

Thank you again for thinking of me and inviting me to the celebration. I hope the party is a great success and that chris has a fantastic birthday.
