Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining why Chris will enjoy the party, stating why you cannot attend, and proposing an alternative meeting time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding your work trip is slightly unclear and repetitive. To improve, ensure that your reasons are explained more naturally and that the tone remains consistently appropriate for a letter to a friend's parents. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the content could be more effectively expanded to better meet the expectations of a formal-informal correspondence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For instance, phrases like 'I give details of a plan' are used as a transition, which feels unnatural. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally confusing, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between your school friends and the party arrangements is unclear. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however') would help the flow of your ideas significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'long lasting' to describe a meeting, 'suction' instead of 'situation', and 'out off country' instead of 'abroad' or 'overseas'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that you use words in their correct context. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and verbs will also help you express your ideas more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Your writing contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your message. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I call all my school friends'), missing articles, and sentence structure errors ('It is very need me'). There is a limited range of complex structures, and the attempts made are often faulty. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of prepositions. Proofreading your work for simple errors like 'employes' (employees) and 'permossion' (permission) would also be beneficial to ensure your writing is more professional.
