Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Oberoi,
I am writing this letter to inform you about some of the details that helps you to make party memorable, which will definitely liked by him.
The activities organized for party are wonderful like gaming chairs, songs competition but, if we hire camera expert to capture the moments and also make video about the memories from his childhood to till now, make him more happy. Apart from this, all the other arrangements are perfect for surprise party.
Unfortunately, I will not come to the party because my interview in multinational company. My career totally rely on this interview. The company employer only come to my province once in a years. I am lucky I get opportunity to meet with reowned person.
I will definitely meet with Chris at the time of christmas or new year holidays. I know we both will be free at that time.
I hope my suggestion make a big change in party , but I also feel bad about not able to attend party.
See you soon,
Yours lovingly,
Prabhjot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained why Chris would enjoy the party, provided a reason for your absence, and suggested a future meeting. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation for why Chris would enjoy the party is a bit vague, and the reason for your absence could be more naturally integrated. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend's parents, although the opening is slightly confusing as you address the parents as 'Oberoi' while the prompt specifies 'Collins'. Ensure you follow all instructions precisely to fully meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'Unfortunately'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the connection between ideas could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the party suggestions and your inability to attend is abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus. The paragraphing is present, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'camera expert' should be 'professional photographer', and 'make video about the memories' would be better phrased as 'create a video montage of his childhood memories'. Additionally, 'reowned person' is a spelling error for 'renowned'. While your meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and lacks the precision required for higher band scores. Focusing on collocations and more natural phrasing will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Your writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'details that helps you'), missing articles (e.g., 'make party memorable'), and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'I will not come' instead of 'I will not be able to attend'). There are also errors with prepositions and word order. While you attempt to use complex sentences, they often contain errors. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for common mistakes will significantly improve your writing.
