Dear Mr and Mrs Collins,
I got your invitation to attend my dear friend Chris surprise birthday party which will be held on 1st October in sydney, Australia.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, the writer explains why Chris will enjoy the surprise party by noting that he has been studying in Canada and misses his family, making a homecoming reunion special. Second, the reason for not attending is clearly stated as ongoing immigration procedures preventing travel. Third, a concrete plan to see Chris at a different time is provided through the mention of the upcoming graduation ceremony in two months. The tone is appropriate for a letter to friends of a friend, and all parts of the prompt are fully addressed with relevant details, fulfilling the requirements well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is generally clear and easy to follow, with an overall logical organization. The message is broken down into appropriate paragraphs, each addressing a distinct part of the prompt (invitation reaction, reason for absence, and alternative meeting plan). However, there are some minor cohesive and structural flaws, such as starting a sentence with 'On the onsite' and abrupt transitions like 'At the end'. Referencing is mostly clear, though paragraphing and transitions could be smoother and more natural to achieve a higher band score. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate and coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, conveying the intended meaning effectively. The writer attempts some less common expressions such as 'immagration procedudures', 'reunion', and 'cherish these moments'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('organisisng', 'stydying', 'Unfortunatly', 'immagration', 'procedudures', 'imposible', 'Thankyou') and occasional awkward word choices, such as 'On the onsite'. Despite these lexical and spelling slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the ideas clearly without impeding the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'As he is coming to meet you on his birthday in Australia this will be a great way of reunion and cherish these moments together.' There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including run-on sentences, missing commas, tense inconsistencies ('He was stydying... from last two years'), and capitalization errors ('sydney', 'i'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not severely impede communication, and the writer shows a reasonable degree of control over basic structures.
