Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the prompt. You state why Chris will enjoy the party by mentioning that he loves parties and will be happy to see his close family and friends together. You also explain why you cannot attend due to important work and a nervous meeting with foreigners, and you provide a specific plan to see him next Friday at a restaurant. However, some of these ideas are under-developed or somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the alternative plan, which prevents the response from reaching a higher level. Overall, the tone is appropriately friendly and conversational for a letter to a friend's parents.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a clear narrative structure that addresses each part of the prompt in sequence. You use basic paragraphing to separate your main points, such as the initial reaction to the party, the reason for absence, and the alternative arrangement. However, your use of cohesive devices is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, sentences like 'Chris and we wery injoy the party I give him surprise party' lack smooth transitions, and referencing is occasionally unclear. While the progression of ideas is generally understandable, improving the logical links between sentences would enhance the flow of the writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using familiar words to communicate your message about the party and your work schedule. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'inviteing', 'surprice', 'altogether', 'abaut', 'injoy', 'reillt', 'abale', 'importent', 'nurvus', 'forgners', 'plane', 'wery', 'restorent', 'cutt', 'arange', 'pich', and 'greatfull'. These errors reflect a limited control of word formation and spelling, although they generally do not completely impede communication. To improve, you need to expand your vocabulary range and focus on accurate spelling of common terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I know Chris will love it and he will so happy to see all of them together' and 'In next friday i ll take him in the restorent'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, prepositions, articles, and punctuation that cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include missing verbs ('he will so happy'), incorrect prepositions ('come in the party', 'take him in the restorent'), tense errors ('Chris will injoy', 'we cutt'), and punctuation issues like missing spaces after periods and lowercase 'i'. These persistent errors indicate that your control of grammatical structures needs strengthening.
