Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you explain that Chris has been busy with his studies and may appreciate a celebration, give your exams and project as reasons for not attending, and propose visiting during your trip to Australia next month. These are relevant and the reader can understand your intentions. The explanation of why Chris will enjoy the party is less fully developed: the link between his studies and not celebrating his birthday is present, but you could add a specific detail about what he enjoys or why seeing family and friends would matter to him. The alternative plan is also quite general; suggesting a particular day or asking whether the family will be available would make it more complete. The response covers the task well overall, with some ideas needing further development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible order: you begin with the purpose, explain why Chris may enjoy the party, give your reason for being unable to attend, and finish with a future visit. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “So,” and “But” help show how the ideas relate, and the main message is easy to follow. However, the response is presented in one large block, so the shifts between the party, your exams, and the proposed visit are not clearly marked. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “So” and “But.” Use separate paragraphs for each main point and vary transitions or connect ideas more naturally. The overall progression is clear, though cohesion and paragraphing are not yet consistently well managed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “dedication,” “schedule,” “project,” and “vacation.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word choices are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “latter” for “letter,” “exprees,” “movements” where “moments” is intended, and “best wishies.” Some phrases are also awkward, such as “happiest on his surprise party” and “work on my project with my studies.” Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for letters and celebrations—for example, “enjoy the party,” “prepare for my exams,” and “send my best wishes.” Your vocabulary is adequate for the topic, but accuracy and natural phrasing need more consistent control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including explanations with “because” and a future plan using “I am planning to visit.” The intended meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and punctuation occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “I hope everything going well” needs a finite verb, while “he is been busy” and “he did not celebrated” use incorrect verb forms. In “which require more dedication,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and several sentences run together without appropriate spaces after punctuation. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them with conjunctions. More reliable control of these basic patterns would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
