Student answer (Band 7.0)

In recent years, more and more people have chosen personal fitness trainers instead of playing team sports or attending exercise classes. Besides having some drawbacks, it is a positive trend and should be encouraged. this is driven by personalized desires and flexible schedules.

one of the main reasons why people are hiring trainers is that it allows one on one practice. personal fitness coach design a personalized workout plans based on individual's age and health condition, unlike regular training classes where plans are designed for all fitness freak individuals. another reason is busy and tough working schedule. Customized exercise plans offer flexibility of time. A gym trainer arrange fitness sessions according to the client's availability, making it easier to maintain a regular exercise routine.

overall I believe that, it is a positive development. Firstly, trainers ensure that a person is doing exercise properly to minimize the risk of injuries. secondly, they keep their client motivated and accountable for achieving long-term fitness goals. For instance, people who are struggling to loose weight or to build more muscles are more successful, when they get complete guidance and encouragement.

However, hiring a personal trainer is not without drawbacks. It is expensive and inaccessible to have personal gym instructor. In addition to this, people are deprived of social interaction and teamwork that sports classes provide, which can make exercise more enjoyable.

In conclusion, the growing popularity of personal training is mainly due to personalized coaching and greater flexibility. Although the cost can be a disadvantage, I believe that benefits such as flexibility, motivation and better results, make this a positive trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend (personalization and flexibility) and providing a clear position on whether it is a positive or negative development. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of injury prevention and motivation. However, the development of some points is slightly brief. For instance, the discussion on the drawbacks could be expanded further to achieve a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a central theme, such as the reasons for the trend or the pros and cons. Cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'secondly', 'In addition to this', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, the connection between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be more seamless to improve the overall cohesion of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'personalized workout plans', 'accountable', and 'social interaction'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'fitness freak individuals' which is informal, and 'loose weight' (should be 'lose'). To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure precise usage of collocations to convey ideas with greater nuance and academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'personal fitness coach design' should be 'coaches design' or 'a coach designs') and punctuation (e.g., missing capital letters at the start of sentences like 'one of the main reasons'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on proofreading for basic errors and attempt to vary sentence structures more consistently to demonstrate better control over complex grammar.
