Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world people are getting more conscious about their health and most people these days are focusing on improving their physical health by going to the gym.

Since a lot of people are still beginners they might not have the knowledge regarding how to perform an exercise or what type of exercise plan should they follow for better results. Most of the gyms today provide services like personal trainers to help their members achieve their fitness goal. My fitness trainers also provide services for their personal clients outside of the gym as well.

I believe the reason why more and more people are hiring a personal trainer rather than playing sports or joining exercise classes is because playing sports require skills and not everybody is keen to learn the skills required to play sports and the trainer in the exercise class may not be able to provide one on one coaching to each and every member making it a little difficult for new commers to solve their doubts. Another reason why people are not joining exercises class is because some people are afraid of being judged by other in the class.

I believe hiring a personal trainer is a positive development because even though it is expensive hiring a personal trainer can help an individual in creating a workout plan that caters to his/her specific needs. Also a personal trainer can help his/her client in learning different types of exercises and what is the importance of that exercise. A personal trainer can also assist his/her client in forming a proper diet plan which can assist the client in achieve his/her fitness goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for hiring personal trainers and the evaluation of whether this is a positive or negative development. The ideas are relevant, such as the need for individual guidance and the fear of judgment in group settings. However, the development is somewhat limited. The arguments could be strengthened by providing more specific examples or deeper analysis of the societal implications. For instance, the discussion on why people avoid sports could be expanded. Overall, the position is clear, but the depth of the response is consistent with a Band 6.0, as some points are slightly under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for reasons, and a conclusion/evaluation. The use of cohesive devices is present but occasionally mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'I believe' and 'another reason'. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the transition between the reasons for hiring a trainer and the evaluation of the trend could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the reader can follow the argument without difficulty, which aligns with Band 6.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'fitness goal', 'workout plan', and 'one on one coaching'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic phrasing. Some word choices are slightly repetitive, and there are minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'new commers' (newcomers) and 'playing sports require' (should be 'requires'). To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise and varied academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('playing sports require') and punctuation errors (missing commas in complex sentences). Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation and phrasing, such as 'new commers' and 'other in the class'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching the Band 7.0 level. The student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining sentence structure.
