Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for hiring personal trainers and whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the explanation regarding why people hire trainers is disjointed, mentioning 'hard work' and 'facilities' without clear logical progression. Furthermore, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. The position is somewhat clear, but the lack of elaboration and the brevity of the response prevent it from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'At the outset' and 'To conclude', these are often used incorrectly or in a way that does not enhance the flow of ideas. The progression of arguments is difficult to follow, particularly in the second and third paragraphs, where the connection between hiring a trainer and social isolation is not clearly articulated. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively support the structure of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'Majorly say that', 'doumble', and 'body show off'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequent errors in word formation and usage occasionally impede the reader's ability to grasp the intended message. To improve, the student should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to health and fitness and practice using these words in correct sentence contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('mostly people was attened'), incorrect verb forms ('I will writing'), and awkward sentence structures. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences that are often punctuated incorrectly. There are significant issues with articles, prepositions, and word order, which make the text difficult to read at times. While the student attempts to use complex ideas, the lack of control over basic grammar prevents the use of complex structures from being successful.
