Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many countries, it has became a trend where people keep a personal trainer rather than doing workout or playing a sport by themselves. There are various reasons behind this trend, such as for motivation purpose, believing on their certificated and education and more. Personally I think, it is a positive development than negative.

To embark with, the first and foremost reason to hire personal trainer could be motivation. To explain, usually people have a long day at work or universities, thus they often feel stressed out, tired and lack of motivation to involve them in any physical activity. Therefore, if they hire a personal trainer, they will have someone who can push them and help to break their all shackles and to stay motivated even after tiring day rather than running alone on tracks with zero intensity. The second reason could be trust. To elaborate it, majorly fitness trainers occupy some fitness and nutritional certificates. Also, the personal trainer usually brings vast knowledge, experience, and results of different individuals who transformed by them. Thus, it gets easy for people to trust them and hire trainers to guide them in their fitness journey.

It is also has positive development in society. The first positive development could be spreading a fitness culture in the society. To elaborate, people often in the society do not want to pursue fitness in their life, they do not feel fitness is a part of their healthy routine. Thus, if one person from their known group pursue fitness, and transform him/her with the help of personal trainer, it will eventually motivate others to do the same. The second positive development could be bringing discipline. People often in their life lack discipline, they usually do not have fix diet, sleep schedule or exercise routine in their life. Thus, if they hire fitness trainer, a fitness trainer will guide and give them proper schedule to follow. By following it, they become discipline in their life and influence others to become the same.

To conclude, there are so many people who do not hire personal trainers. However, if something is benefiting you in so many ways by spending little behind it, then why not? And hiring a personal trainer is one of it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and providing a clear opinion on whether it is a positive development. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the discussion on motivation and discipline. However, the development of ideas is sometimes slightly repetitive, and the conclusion is a bit weak, failing to fully summarise the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a more distinct and nuanced exploration of the topic rather than repeating similar concepts like 'discipline' and 'motivation'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a progression of ideas from the reasons for the trend to the evaluation of its impact. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To embark with', 'To elaborate', and 'Thus'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural, such as 'To embark with', which is not standard English usage. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking words will help elevate this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'nutritional certificates' and 'fitness journey'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'believing on their certificated' instead of 'believing in their certifications' and 'fix diet' instead of 'fixed diet'. The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'it has became a trend' (should be 'has become'), 'lack of motivation to involve them' (should be 'to involve themselves'), and 'they become discipline' (should be 'they become disciplined'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb forms, and the proper use of adjectives versus nouns.
