Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and offering an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the reasons for hiring a trainer are clear, the discussion on whether it is a positive or negative development is less structured. The conclusion provides a clear stance, but the body paragraphs could have been more balanced in their evaluation of the 'positive or negative' aspect. The ideas are relevant, but some points, such as the benefits of sports, are slightly tangential to the core issue of personal trainers versus other forms of exercise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One major reason', 'On the one hand', and 'In conclusion', which help the reader follow the argument. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within the fourth paragraph is a bit repetitive, as it restates the cost issue mentioned earlier. Overall, the structure is sufficient to guide the reader through the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'structured', 'goal-focused', 'stamina', and 'sportsmanship'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'get membership of personal trainer' instead of 'hiring a personal trainer' and 'Professionally guidance' instead of 'professional guidance'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score as they show a lack of precision in collocation and word form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('hiring a personal trainer have', 'hiring trainer be'), missing articles ('participate in sports', 'help in improve'), and incorrect word forms ('Football help in improve'). These errors are noticeable and occur across different sentence types. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
