Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, number of people are choosing to hire a personal fitness trainer instead of doing exercises or games. There are numerous reasons for this trend. In my opinion, it’s a positive development.

To begin with, in today’s world, people are so busy and have hectic schedule so they don’t have time to do regular exercises and playing sports. A personal trainer will help them to remember doing exercises and take care of their health. They make proper timetable of a person and help them to stay fit by doing exercises and make a good diet.

Moreover, motivation and concentration is the other reason for hiring a personal fitness trainer. For instance, in a gym or in a public areas, there are many people who are doing exercises. Even though, they have one trainer for every individual make it difficult for a person to concentrate on their own exercise. Having a personal fitness trainer motivates an individual and helps them to concentrate on their exercises.

In my opinion, having personal fitness trainer is positive impact on person’s health because it helps them to stay focused on their exercises and health by staying motivated .

In conclusion, personal trainers are beneficial for individual health regardless they are costly but overalls gives a positive development of a person.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for hiring a personal trainer and the opinion on whether it is a positive or negative development. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. The ideas provided, such as time management and motivation, are relevant but remain underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your points with more specific examples and detailed explanations. The conclusion is also quite brief and lacks a summary of the main points discussed. Because the word count requirement was not met, the development of ideas is restricted, resulting in a lower score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'In conclusion'). Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be improved. For instance, the second paragraph jumps between time management and diet without a smooth connection. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'doing exercises' and 'good diet' repeatedly. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'number of people' (should be 'a number of people') and 'overalls gives' (should be 'overall it is'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to health and fitness, such as 'tailored fitness regimes', 'professional guidance', or 'sedentary lifestyle'. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express your ideas more naturally and precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'hectic schedule' (needs an article: 'a hectic schedule'), 'remember doing exercises' (should be 'remember to do'), and 'regardless they are costly' (should be 'regardless of the fact that they are costly'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and practicing more complex sentence structures would be beneficial.
