Student answer (Band 6.0)
Today in many countries most of the people are hiring a personal fitness trainer instead of joining exercise classes or taking part in any sport. This trend impose a lot of positive effects than negative ones.
There are several reasons behind this impact and the major one is the professional guidance. Hiring a personal trainer is beneficial to people as they could be trained according to their needs, ability and goals. For example, an individual wants to improve his fitness and his trainer could personally guide him and monitor his ability such as weight lifting which can help his tutor to train him accordingly However, in group exercise classes people sometime do not feel recognized by the tutor.
To add on, many people have busy lifestyle due to work and family commitments which makes it difficult to join regular group exercise classes or sports but One-to-One sessions could be helpful with flexible schedule with their comfort zone. For instance, some people feels uncomfortable to do exercise in front of others such as joining gym or any sports club due to which they hire a personal trainer to concentrate on their fitness with comfort.
In conclusion, many people are hiring personal fitness trainers for personalised assistance, motivation and increase their confidence and which saves their a plenty of time instead of joining any group exercise classes and sport clubs. Although personal trainers are a positive trend but it is expensive for some people which is not affordable for them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and an evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. However, the essay is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the reasons (professional guidance and flexibility) are relevant, the discussion on whether it is a positive or negative development is somewhat brief. The conclusion introduces a new point about cost, which is a relevant observation but should have been integrated into the main body paragraphs to ensure a more balanced and fully developed argument. Overall, the response is clear but lacks the necessary length to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To add on', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. However, there are some issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the run-on sentence in the conclusion: '...confidence and which saves their a plenty of time...'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are clearly separated would enhance the flow and coherence of the writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'professional guidance', 'flexible schedule', and 'personalised assistance'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'This trend impose' (should be 'imposes'), 'saves their a plenty of time' (should be 'saves them plenty of time'), and 'tutor' (which is usually used for academic subjects rather than fitness trainers). Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on accurate collocations would help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some people feels uncomfortable'), incorrect article usage ('the major one is the professional guidance'), and awkward phrasing ('which is not affordable for them' is redundant after 'expensive'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the missing full stop after 'accordingly'. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
