Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for hiring personal trainers and the evaluation of whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'job opportunities' is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of its broader societal impact. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting points could be more robustly extended to reach a higher band. The essay covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited, which is characteristic of a mid-range performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, such as the abrupt transition in the third paragraph regarding job opportunities. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the essay maintains a coherent structure throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'skyrocketing' and 'customised', but there are also several spelling errors (e.g., 'prefered', 'programmge', 'oppotunities', 'recruting', 'fed') and minor collocation issues (e.g., 'higher economy'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and more precise word choices to convey their arguments with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the trend', 'a personal trainer'), subject-verb agreement issues ('This cause reduced number'), and awkward phrasing ('Nobody deny that trend'). Complex structures are attempted, but they often contain errors that detract from the overall fluency. The punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and article usage would be beneficial.
