Student answer (Band 6.5)

In some countries, an increasing number of individuals prefer to hire a personal fitness trainer rather than play sports or attend exercise classes. This essay will discuss the reason behind this trend and explain why I believe it is a positive development.

There are several reasons why people are increasingly choosing a personal fitness trainer. Firstly, personal trainers provide individualized workout plans based on a person's fitness level, diet plan and physical condition. This will guide the coach on the best way to handle the client. For example, mothers who gave birth recently and have a condition called diastasis recti need to be handled with utmost care.

Secondly, employing a trainer helps to schedule it around your availability especially when your job is quite demanding. This will encourage the clients to be punctual to the sessions. In addition, it would make them stay committed to the exercise as it has been proved that individuals tend to always keep to time especially if it was scheduled by them. For instance, last year when I hired a private trainer due to the fact that I am always busy and do have time to go for an exercise classes. I realised that it was convenient for me and was always looking forward to the sessions.

Hiring a personal fitness trainers allows individuals to a personalized programmes, this will contribute to a measured progress and increase their motivation to exercise. To illustrate, majority of the trainers follow a strict routine that cannot be compromised when it comes to their client as they have a customised workout plans.

In conclusion, although participating in sports or attending exercise classes have several benefits, I believe that hiring a personal trainer is more advantageous because it provides the individual with personalised guidance, strict schedule and work around the clients availability.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for hiring personal trainers and the evaluation of whether this is a positive or negative development. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the points about 'individualized plans' and 'scheduling' are mentioned in the second paragraph and then revisited in the third. While the examples provided, such as the mention of diastasis recti and personal experience, are relevant, the essay would benefit from more distinct, well-developed arguments to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining a consistent stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In addition', and 'To illustrate' are used to guide the reader. However, the transition between the third paragraph and the rest of the essay is slightly disjointed, as the third paragraph repeats points already made. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally clear, though the mechanical nature of some transitions prevents a higher score. Referencing is mostly clear, though some sentences could be more tightly linked to improve flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'individualized workout plans', 'diastasis recti', and 'customised workout plans'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'do have time' instead of 'do not have time' and 'allows individuals to a personalized programmes' (grammatical error affecting lexical clarity). The range of vocabulary is sufficient but lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips that occur throughout the text. For example, 'Hiring a personal fitness trainers' (subject-verb agreement error), 'allows individuals to a personalized programmes' (preposition/article error), and 'do have time to go for an exercise classes' (article error). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching the 7.0 band. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure could be more varied to demonstrate greater control.
