Student answer (Band 6.5)

In some of the nations of the world, myriad number of people are choosing personal fitness trainer, instead of doing physical activities to remain fit. The most probable reason for this shift is the desire for efficiency and customization. In this opinion, this is largely a negative development as it reduces the community sport participation.

The primary reason people hire personal trainers is need to get customized fitness programs according to their needs. This enables them to stay consistent through the workouts sessions to achieve their goals. Secondary reason is that this helps them to bring efficiency in their routine unlike generic group classes stay on disoriented schedules. Moreover tailored instructions lead to safer results, less injury occurrences and therefor declining burden on public healthcare systems.

On the other hand, the preference for fitness trainer results in notable social and financial drawbacks. Team sports and group classes foster social interaction, improves communication between teammates and develops team spirit, whereas, one to one sessions are mostly isolated and transactional. Personal training can be costly, potentially turning personal health optimization a luxury for high earners only. For example, the fee for personal trainers often cost $80 per hour, making this personal fitness only accessible to wealthy sections. Furthermore, relying completely on a fitness trainer can result in over dependency and reduced self reliance. This will prevent the individuals from the basic fitness knowledge and deprive one from developing intrinsic motivation.

To Recapitulate, the movement towards the personal training is motivated by customized programming and efficiency, however its negatives outweigh the positives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons for hiring personal fitness trainers and whether this trend is a positive or negative development. A clear position is maintained throughout, concluding that the negative aspects outweigh the positives. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and a specific example regarding the cost of personal trainers. However, some arguments could be extended further; for instance, the point regarding the burden on public healthcare systems is introduced briefly without detailed elaboration. Overall, the task is successfully covered, aligning well with the Band 7 requirements for task response where all parts are addressed and a clear position is presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information and ideas are structured coherently across distinct paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to link sentences and paragraphs, such as 'The primary reason', 'Secondary reason', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand'. While referencing and paragraphing are generally handled well, some cohesive links feel slightly mechanical, and there are occasional minor awkward transitions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, reasons, drawbacks, and conclusion, matching the standard expected for a Band 7 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, using terms like 'customization', 'efficiency', 'transactional', and 'intrinsic motivation'. There are, however, some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'myriad number of people' (instead of 'a myriad of people'), 'stay on disoriented schedules', and 'less injury occurrences'. Spelling is generally accurate, but minor lexical slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The vocabulary used is adequate to convey the intended meaning successfully, meeting the descriptors for Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as 'choosing personal fitness trainer' (missing article and pluralization), 'is need to get' (missing article), 'often cost $80' (subject-verb agreement), and 'turning personal health optimization a luxury' (preposition error). While these errors occur frequently, they rarely impede communication, as the core message remains understandable. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor, which highlights a mix of structures and some persistent errors that do not block overall comprehension.
