Student answer (Band 6.5)
In todays modernised world, fitness is one of the most discussed topic. Some people believe that seeking guidance from professional fitness coach is more beneficial. While, others have opinion that involving in physical activities or joining workout sessions are really helpful to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, I strongly believe that participating in games and getting into some sort of exercise classes is a positive development because it is affordable, enjoyable and enhance the opportunities of social interactions.
There are myraid of reasons why people prefer to have a personal trainer. Firstly, professional trainers design a proper exercise schedule for the individual according to their fitness levels and target a specific goal. For instance, If a person who wants to grow glutes can receive a suitable workout plan and regular guidance from the professionals. Secondly, trainers monitor their clients progress really closely and correct their exercise techniques, which can help to acheive the desirable goal. Moreover, one-to-one training can be convenient for people who prefer flexible schedule.
Despite these advantages, I believe that playing sports offer greater benefits. One major merit is that these activities are generally affordable. You can just join a sports club and participating in fitness classes without paying the high fees for personal trainer. As a result, physical activities are accessible to a wider range of society. Other advantage is social interactions. Sports and group activities allow people to meet each other, make friends and build teamwork skills. For example, playing cricket or football need team coordination and collaboration. Because of it, communication and inter-personal skills are improved.
In conclusion, although hiring a trainer provides personalised guidance and support, I believe that exercise classes and participating in games improves social relation and more affordability, which may help people to maintain a healthy lifestyle over the time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons for hiring a personal trainer and discussing whether this is a positive or negative development. A clear position is maintained throughout, concluding that participating in games and exercise classes is more beneficial. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as 'growing glutes' for personal trainers and 'playing cricket or football' for group sports. However, the first part of the prompt—explaining the reasons for the trend—is slightly compressed compared to the more detailed discussion on why sports are positive. Nonetheless, all core requirements of the prompt are satisfactorily covered, aligning well with the Band 7 criteria.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to reasons for personal trainers, counter-arguments regarding sports, and a final conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, with transition markers such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'Despite these advantages' effectively guiding the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Minor flaws in referencing and cohesive transitions prevent a higher score; for example, sentences like 'Because of it, communication...' are slightly mechanical. Overall, the structure remains coherent and easy to follow, fitting comfortably into Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, employing terms like 'modernised world', 'personalised guidance', 'team coordination', and 'inter-personal skills'. Less common lexical items are attempted, showing some awareness of collocation, although occasional inaccuracies occur, such as 'joining in physical activities' and 'enhance the opportunities of social interactions' (where 'enhance' is less natural than 'increase' or 'improve'). Spelling and word choices are generally clear and do not impede communication, placing the response securely in the Band 6 territory with strong elements of Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as concessive clauses ('While, others have opinion that...') and conditional constructions. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing articles ('is one of the most discussed topic' instead of 'topics'), incorrect prepositions ('involving in' instead of 'involving oneself in' or 'participating in'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('playing cricket or football need'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the meaning easily. This profile corresponds well to a Band 6.
