Student answer (Band 6.0)

With the prevalence of experts in every field of life, sports and exercise industry has also evolved, and hiring of expert fitness trainers has become widely common. While some people consider this a positive trend towards the fitness, other consider it very costly and formal approach to an informal sports activity. I consider this trend a positive development as it helps many people to seek an expert advice instead of just randomly cherry picking a sports activity.

As it is proven fact that sports is not merely a fun activity, rather it is also pivotal for health. Many types of disease require a particular type of exercise, and personal fitness trainers are qualified to help individuals to tailer-made the fitness plans based on someone's health conditions. For example, my mother went through a knee and back pain last year. The doctor diagnosed that underlying problem was the over weight, and advised my mother to do the exercise to reduce her wait. Since she also was also a diabetic patient, therefore, we hired a personal fitness trainer. The trainer after studying all underlying health conditions and weight reduce goals, helped my mother to have a specific exercise which helped her to reduce the weight in around six months of time.

Within the hustle and bustle of today's cities, it is noticed that people are up to their ears with their employment and business ventures. It is very tough for people to devote much needed time to explore general sports, as mostly their aim to keep themselves in good shape and health instead of enjoying sports as a hobby. Hiring a personal fitness trainer helps them to achieve their goals more time efficiently and effectively. Personal trainers are available at a time suitable for an individual, whereas a general sports require a time census among all team members. For instance, I have been working night shift for the last couple of years, and my friends are usually not available to accompany me for fun sports, like tennis or football, in the day time. Additionally, I realised that personal fitness trainer for me was inevitable when I joined a gym; however, i felt myself very naive to use any equipment.

In conclusion, personal fitness trainers are helping individuals enormously as they are available at bespoke times, and eventually also helps individuals' meets their personal health goals and cure specific disease. However, precaution should be taken before hiring any trainers, as not al trainers are qualified.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the reasons for hiring a personal trainer and clearly stating a position that this is a positive development. Ideas are well developed and extended with relevant examples, such as the personal anecdote about the writer's mother and their own gym experience. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, and the main arguments regarding medical tailored plans and time efficiency are well-supported. Although there is a minor grammatical slip in referencing the side effects ('over weight', 'wait'), the core task requirements of addressing causes and evaluating the trend are fully met, aligning well with the Band 7 criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with the introduction of the trend, moving to health-related reasons in the second paragraph, lifestyle and time-efficiency reasons in the third, and concluding with a balanced summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'For example', 'Within the hustle and bustle', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are some minor mechanical links and occasional slight stiffness in transitions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments, ensuring the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow, fitting a solid Band 7 profile.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'prevalence', 'pivotal', 'bespoke', and 'inevitable'. However, there are several word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'fitness industry' missing an article ('sports and exercise industry'), 'tailer-made' instead of 'tailor-made', 'over weight' instead of 'overweight', and 'reduce her wait' instead of 'weight'. While these errors do not impede communication and the writer's meaning remains clear, the frequency of lexical slips prevents the response from reaching a higher band, making Band 6.0 the most accurate description.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as conditional and dependent clauses (e.g., 'While some people consider this...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips, such as missing articles ('the sports and exercise industry', 'a general sport'), incorrect prepositions or verb forms ('other consider', 'not al trainers'), and lowercase pronouns ('i felt myself'). Although these errors rarely impede communication and the reader can easily follow the arguments, they are common enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 7. Band 6 accurately reflects a mix of correct complex structures alongside persistent local errors.
