Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons for hiring personal fitness trainers, such as expert guidance and personalized training, and clearly presents a position that this is a positive development due to increased consistency and motivation. The ideas are relevant and generally supported with explanations, such as avoiding injuries and tailoring programs to specific goals like gaining muscle or losing weight. However, some arguments remain somewhat repetitive and could be extended further with deeper real-world examples. Overall, the prompt is well-covered, placing the response comfortably within the Band 6.0 to 6.5 range for Task Achievement, as all parts of the task are addressed and supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression and is divided into appropriate paragraphs representing the introduction, reasons, positive aspects, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts between ideas, such as 'The main reasons why people hire fitness trainers is expert guidence' and 'Another reason is personalized training'. However, some referencing is slightly mechanical and logical progression occasionally stumbles due to repetition. Paragraphing is handled sufficiently, but transitions between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band. These characteristics align well with the descriptors for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'expert guidance', 'personalized training', 'fitness levels', and 'consistency'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are occasionally marred by spelling errors, such as 'guidence' instead of 'guidance', 'acording' instead of 'according', and 'loss weight' instead of 'lose weight'. Despite these lexical and spelling inaccuracies, the vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly without impeding the reader's understanding, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures and relative clauses such as 'if somebod want to gain muscle or loss weight, personal trainer can help them'. There are several grammatical errors and omissions throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The main reasons... is expert guidence', missing articles ('a personal trainer', 'with their training'), and spelling errors affecting verb forms ('somebod', 'loss'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the intended meaning. This performance is characteristic of Band 6.0.
