Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries, increasing number of people hire personal fitness trainer, instead of participating in sport or doing exercise classes. In my opinion, this is a positive development as personal training is more effective because professional trainers can help people do exercise more effectively and safety.

Personal trainers have become more popular. One major reason is that they provide individualised plan according to person's fitness, goals and lifestyle. Unlike other group classes where people follow same exercises , diet plan and same routine. For example having personal trainer can give us advantage to select the timing according to an individual's routine.

Safety is very crucial for our in terms of exercise. Personal trainers always suggest the exercise according to age and requirements. This helps us to cause less injuries. They keep the track of our records and eventually can increase the speed and time. They always motivate us to reach our targets. For example trainers set a goal and helps us to achieve them by different exercise. This will helps to gain effective results in busy lifetsyle.

In conclusion, peronal trainsers have been a good choice especially for those who have hectic schedule and wants instant results. Playiong sports and doing exercise clases is a long term plan it needs patience to achieve the goal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing reasons for hiring personal trainers and giving a clear opinion that this is a positive development. However, the length requirement is not met, as the text contains only 213 words compared to the minimum of 250. This negative impact restricts the development of ideas, leading to under-developed arguments. While the introduction states that trainers help people exercise effectively and safely, the subsequent body paragraphs remain somewhat repetitive and lack deeper extension. For instance, the discussion on safety and individualised plans touches upon valid points like avoiding injuries and matching fitness goals, but these ideas are not fully explored. Consequently, Task Achievement is capped at Band 5.0 due to the insufficient word count and resulting lack of extended support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a logical overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though some paragraphs are quite short. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Unlike other group classes', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, but their application is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'helps us to cause less injuries', which disrupts the natural flow of information. Progression is discernible, yet the under-developed nature of the paragraphs limits the overall cohesion of the text. Because the organisation is generally clear despite some mechanical elements, this meets the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'individualised plan', 'lifestyle', 'hectic schedule', and 'instant results'. However, there are noticeable word-choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'increasing number of people hire' instead of 'an increasing number of people are hiring', and 'cause less injuries' instead of 'prevent injuries' or 'reduce the risk of injuries'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'peronal trainsers' and 'lifetsyle'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic meanings, supporting a Band 5.5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Unlike other group classes where people follow same exercises...'. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and there are frequent errors in articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'increasing number of people hire personal fitness trainer' (missing articles), 'diet plan and same routine' (missing pluralisation and articles), and 'This will helps' (grammatical agreement error). Punctuation is also occasionally faulty, with spacing issues like 'popular. One major reason'. Although the writer attempts complex structures, errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader, placing this criterion at a Band 5.0.
