Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days, people are extremely health-conscious. Hiring a personal fitness trainer, rather than doing physical activities themselves, is preferred in some of the nations. The reasons could be social media's impact and hectic schedules. In my perspective, it is a negative development.

To begin with the reasons, social media has a great impact on the lives of the young generation. Almost everyone is active on various social media platforms, where they come across the posts of celebrities, who are the trendsetters and influence the public with new modifications in their fitness. For instance, I recently came to know that one of the famous Hollywood celebrities has modified his entire body shape to appear more attractive with the guidance of his trainer. Additionally, some of the working professionals do not have time to do sports or exercises, with the mentor, they can manage their health & work schedule. To examplify, instructor can suggest some light exercises during their work breaks & can give a dietary plan.

On the contrary, there should be a limit on the posts of influencers. Because it is not possible to acquire their lifestyles, as it could be expensive to hire a personal fitness coach for somebody. Moreover, their mind and body can be more dependent on someone's instructions. Next, to live a healthy & wealthy lifestyle, a person should focus on themselves, rather than over reliable on a coach.

To conclude, overall it is a negative development. If a person cannot take care of their body and cannot maintain a schedule to stay healthy, it can be a burden on their finances. Additionally, it is a dependency on others to regulate their body.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the reasons for hiring a personal trainer and whether this trend is a positive or negative development. The writer presents a clear position ('In my perspective, it is a negative development'). Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as Hollywood celebrities influencing fitness trends and working professionals managing busy schedules. However, some arguments lack deep development, particularly the discussion surrounding dependency and financial burdens in the body paragraphs. While the main points are adequately covered, they tend to over-generalize slightly, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate reasons from counterarguments and personal perspectives. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Phrases such as 'To begin with the reasons' and 'On the contrary' are slightly unnatural in their application. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'with the mentor' and 'with instructor', where pronoun referencing or cohesive ties could be smoother. Progression is generally evident, but the logical links between sentences occasionally feel abrupt, justifying a solid Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting less common items such as 'health-conscious', 'trendsetters', and 'dietary plan'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher band, such as 'in some of the nations' instead of 'in some countries', and 'over reliable' instead of 'over-reliant'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary remains somewhat limited and repetitive, with terms like 'body', 'schedule', and 'exercise' appearing frequently. The lexical adequacy without high precision places this response securely at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('If a person cannot take care of their body...') and relative clauses ('...where they come across the posts of celebrities, who are the trendsetters...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as comma splices ('...with their mentor, they can manage their health & work schedule') and preposition errors ('to do sports or exercises, with the mentor'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without significant confusion. This profile fits the Band 6 criteria.
