Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, an increasing number of people are choosing personal trainers instead of participating in sports and yoga classes. This trend can be explained by several reasons, and I believe this is a positive development because personal trainers will encourage and motivate their clients.
There are several reasons why people prefer to hire personal trainers. A personal trainer can train only one person. Unlike group exercise classes, a trainer will plan according to their ability and age. For instance, some have a plan to lose weight, and some want to get fit. So, everyone has a distinct workout. Moreover, a personal trainer can help people to stay motivated and disciplined. People start exercising, and after a few weeks, they drop off. A personal trainer will motivate them to stick with exercise regularly.
It is a positive development. People may gain a big advantage. They may avoid serious injury if a trainer guides them carefully. Also, a trainer can correct their techniques, which reduces the risk of injury. Secondly, personal training can be helpful at different levels. For example, some are beginners and they need simple techniques, and others are experienced and they need different techniques.
In conclusion, people are increasingly choosing personal trainers because they provide individual guidance, motivation and a personalised plan. In my opinion, it is a positive development because it can help people exercise safely and achieve their fitness goals more effectively. Most of the people do not feel comfortable in a group so they prefer a personal trainer who just guides them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the reasons why people hire personal trainers and providing a clear opinion on whether it is a positive or negative development. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The reasons are relevant, citing personalised workouts, motivation, and safety. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for example, the explanation regarding different fitness levels is brief. Phrases like 'a big advantage' could be extended further. Nevertheless, the main parts of the prompt are covered sufficiently, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and the evaluation, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Also', and 'Secondly' are used to structure the text, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph having a distinct focus. Referencing is generally clear, as seen in 'This trend can be explained...'. However, the progression between ideas in the second half could be smoother. This level corresponds to Band 6.5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'personal trainers', 'participating in sports', 'distinct workout', and 'personalised plan'. There are attempts at less common vocabulary, but some expressions are basic or slightly repetitive, such as 'gain a big advantage' and 'help people to stay motivated'. Word choice and collocations are generally acceptable and do not impede communication, although occasional minor inaccuracies appear. Spelling and word formation are accurate throughout. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Nowadays, an increasing number of people are choosing personal trainers instead of participating in sports and yoga classes' and 'People start exercising, and after a few weeks, they drop off.' There is good control of basic structures, and punctuation is generally correct. While there are some minor awkwardness and repetitive structures, grammar errors are rare and do not impede communication. The writer achieves frequent error-free sentences, supporting a Band 6.5 score.
