Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 97 words. Because of this severe under-length, the task is addressed only minimally. While the writer attempts to mention reasons for hiring personal trainers and whether it is a positive or negative development, the ideas remain extremely limited and under-developed. For instance, the suggestion that people hire trainers simply to show they are rich is underdeveloped and lacks adequate explanation or relevant examples. The position on whether this trend is positive or negative is not clearly articulated or supported throughout the brief response, aligning the performance with a basic task response level where only minimal aspects of the prompt are touched upon.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text demonstrates a basic attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction from the body points, but information and ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent manner. There is a lack of clear overall progression, and the transitions between sentences feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are very basic or missing entirely, making the logical relationship between the reasons and the main prompt somewhat difficult to follow. For example, sentences such as 'The first reason is the people who hire trainer because they show they are rich...' lack smooth referencing and structural flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the extreme brevity of the text prevents any sophisticated or extended organizational structure from emerging.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical resource used in the response is basic and repetitive, utilizing everyday vocabulary such as 'people', 'trainers', 'sport', and 'rich'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that stem from an inadequate lexical range, such as writing 'grup' instead of 'group', 'traner' instead of 'trainer', and 'uniqe' instead of 'unique'. The student attempts simple collocation, but awkward phrasing like 'playing something' and 'danger for thrm' indicates limited control over vocabulary. While meaning can sometimes be extracted, the restricted range and frequent lexical inaccuracies mean the vocabulary remains at a foundational level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of short, simple sentence forms with frequent structural errors. There is a lack of control over basic verb forms, tenses, and agreements, as seen in errors like 'They think it was more helpful then playing sport' and 'There is two main reasons'. Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, demonstrated by tangled clauses such as 'the people who hire trainer because they show they are rich and do anything in home what they wont'. Punctuation and articles are also handled inconsistently, and the high frequency of grammatical errors throughout the short text affects the overall readability of the response.
