Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many people in different countries opt for a privite fitness trainer instead of joining sports clubs. This trend is widespread due to the flexibilty of the training schedule and the garentee results obtained. In my opinion, though allocating a coach for personal activities can be positive it still has some negative effects.
People around the world are becoming interested in sports but their hectic schedule imposes a private training with a coach available accordingly. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response only partially addresses the prompt and falls significantly short of the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at 148 words with an unfinished sentence. The writer attempts to cover both parts of the task by identifying reasons for hiring personal trainers, such as schedule flexibility and privacy, and touches upon whether this development is positive or negative. However, due to the severe length deficiency, the ideas remain limited, basic, and under-developed. To reach a higher level, the writer must fully develop all parts of the prompt with expanded explanations, relevant examples, and a complete essay structure that meets the required word length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The essay displays some organization with a basic introduction, body paragraph, and a truncated final paragraph, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inadequate or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on simple transitions like 'This way' and 'Therefore'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final body paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the logical flow of the text. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the development of arguments. Improving the overall cohesion requires using a wider range of cohesive links accurately, ensuring logical transitions between sentences, and structuring complete, fully developed paragraphs that guide the reader smoothly through the arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about fitness and personal training. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'hectic schedule' and 'convinient', but noticeable spelling errors like 'privite', 'garentee', 'privicy', 'celebraty', 'convinient', 'ana', and 'benifitial' occur throughout the text. Word choice is sometimes imprecise, such as 'allocating a coach' rather than 'hiring a coach'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical control. To achieve a higher band score, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, improve spelling accuracy, and use words with correct collocation and natural stylistic control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that often contain errors. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with prepositions, articles, and word forms, such as 'imposes a private training' and 'in search for privicy' instead of 'in search of privacy'. Punctuation is also weak, notably missing periods at the ends of sentences in places. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex grammatical structures while maintaining better control over basic sentence mechanics, agreement, and prepositional usage.
